If you're thinking of purchasing a home in Stewart you should probably look at a number of options. Of course some of the things you may want to consider:
- Has the property been heated while it has remained empty; check for mould
- What's the condition of the electrical panel box; has the property had an electrical upgrade
by a QUALIFIED electrician. You may want to consider costs associated with an upgrade
and then ask yourself "who is going to do the work". We think that the power should
be upgraded to 200 AMP service for today's changing electrical needs. If a power
upgrade is needed be sure to factor in that cost in your purchase price.
- What's the state of the heating system; who's going to fix it if it needs fixing
- Does the plumbing need upgrading? Can you do it, if not where can you find a plumber
- Bring your tools if you're moving to Stewart, you may need them regardless of where you
may live
- Where do you think you may be able to get supplies for any renovations that you may have
to do
- When was the roof last replaced. If it hasn't been replaced or adequately maintained
then you may have to consider replacement. That's a $5,000 to $10,000 expense
depending on material cost and who is going to do the work.
- If you can't do your own repairs and renovations you really have to consider just where
you're going to find qualified tradespeople. There aren't too many who live in Stewart
and the ones who are here are very, very busy.
Of course, there are other things to consider too....but we leave that up to you to think about
